Thane, April 2: As the city prepares for Hanuman Janmotsav, the Thane Police Commissionerate has released updated data revealing a significant growth in religious infrastructure. There are currently 339 registered Hanuman temples across the five zones of the commissionerate—Thane City, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, and Wagle Estate.

The data indicates a notable increase of 48 temples within the last two years. In 2024, the total count stood at 291. Kalyan leads the region with the highest number of Hanuman temples at 83, followed by Thane City with 58.

Massive security deployment for Hanuman Janmotsav

In light of the celebrations scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre has ordered a comprehensive security "bandobast" to ensure public safety and maintain communal harmony during the festivities.

Deployment breakdown

A massive force of 2,231 police personnel has been deployed across the region, including:

● 6 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP)

● 10 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP)

● 78 Police Inspectors

● 232 Assistant Police Inspectors

● 1,869 male constables and 362 female constables

Additionally, two units of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), five "Tanni" vans, and specialised teams equipped with 59 walkie-talkies will be monitoring the events.

Processions and events planned

The city is set to witness a vibrant display of devotion, with a total of 148 processions planned to the accompaniment of traditional "Dhol-Tasha" drums.

Thane City & Wagle Estate: These areas combined host 135 temples and will see approximately 44 "Palkhi" (palanquin) processions.

Event Planning: Records show 210 locations will hold religious or entertainment programmes, with 50 major religious events specifically noted in the Kalyan area and 35 processions scheduled for Thane City alone.
