After the election of BJP MLA Rahul Narvekar as the Assembly Speaker, the legislators from the treasury and opposition benches took swipes against each other on the recent political developments and the way ahead. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed it was not a rebellion but the legislators took a strong stand on Hindutva saying that it was for the time in India that the ruling party legislators walked to the opposition to form the alternate government.

On the other hand, former DCM Ajit Pawar referred to the BJP central leadership’s decision to demote Devendra Fadnavis as deputy chief minister and claimed that the decision has not gone down well in the saffron party as it was visible from the mood within the BJP. He took a dig at the state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil for banging the table after the new government’s first win for the Speaker’s post saying, ‘’Don’t do it as it is not sure whether Dada (Chandrakant Patil) will get the ministerial berth.’’

Pawar referred to the rebellion staged by Eknath Shinde and said, ‘’If Shinde had told me in my ears of becoming the CM, I would have certainly told to former CM Uddhav Thackeray and made him CM.’’

The Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, ‘’This government of BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, will try to fulfil all the aspirations of Maharashtra and we hope that you (Speaker) will give a good co-operation for the same.’’

Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray targeted the Shinde-Fadnavis government on the stringent security arrangements in place for rebel Shiv Sena MLAs as they entered the Vidhan Bhavan premises from a nearby luxury hotel. ‘’Even Kasab did not have so much security. We have not seen such security before in Mumbai. Why are you scared? Is someone going to run away? Why so much fear, Thackeray said. He noted that the rebels should see eye to eye and tell the people that what they did was right.

NCP MLA Jayant Patil hoped that the opposition will get justice from the ‘’son in law’’ referring to newly elected speaker Rahul Narvekar who is the son-in-law of the NCP veteran Ramraje Nimbalkar who is the chairman of the state council.

During the headcount to elect the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, Opposition benches chanted "ED, ED" when Shiv Sena's Yamini Yashwant Jadhav registered her head count. Jadhav is the wife of the former chairman of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s Standing Committee Yashwant Jadhav who is being probed by the ED in a case of alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations. The Income Tax officials too had attached a flat belonging to the Jadhavs in Bandra and nearly 40 properties linked to Yashwant over the charges of tax evasion earlier this year.
