Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch has invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the brutal murder case of Sachin Kurmi, a worker from the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP. So far, three suspects involved in Kurmi's murder have been arrested, but the mastermind remains at large.

The application of MCOCA signifies tougher legal hurdles for the accused, making bail more challenging. Sachin Kurmi’s wife, Anupama Kurmi, and his elder brother, Mahesh Kurmi, met with Crime Branch officials on November 25. Anupama expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation and warned that she would approach the Bombay High Court to demand a CBI probe if significant progress was not made.

Sachin Kurmi was brutally murdered on October 5, 2024, in Mumbai’s Byculla area. The crime sent shockwaves through political and social circles due to its violent nature. The Crime Branch has intensified its efforts to apprehend the mastermind and ensure justice for Kurmi’s family. Meanwhile, the imposition of MCOCA highlights the organized nature of the crime and underscores the authorities' commitment to delivering swift justice.
