Mumbai: The residents and pedestrians of South Mumbai have expressed that they are dealing with the problem of traffic congestion, owing to the road works that have been initiated by the BMC in the city. Mumbaikars who live or work in South Mumbai believe that they are facing the brunt of the entire city’s works.
A commuter who works near Trident Hotel in Nariman Point and did not wished to be named told FPJ that the road works are causing a huge deal of inconvenience and health problems. She said, “The road near Trident is dug up. I reach office late daily. Whether you take a taxi or bus, you are stuck in that traffic everyday. There is no place to walk as well. The cement and dust has also been causing health problems to many of my colleagues.”
Shariq Mohammed, a resident of Crawford Market, said, “Crawford market is known for the traffic it causes. The traffic that is caused from Parel pulls up till here. Also, a few roads inside have been dug up too. There are a few BEST buses that take those routes. It becomes very difficult for them to tour that place which in turn causes a lot of traffic congestion. It’s a menace.”
Shehnaz Ansari, a resident of Nagpada, said, “If you travel from the Nagpada signal towards CST, you will see that there is a major traffic jam everyday. This is nothing but the traffic that is congested because of the road works North side. South Mumbai is facing the brunt of the entire city’s road works.”
Raj Lalchandani, a student who studies in a college in South Mumbai, said, “In South Mumbai, the problem of traffic is at least a little better than the remaining parts of the city. However, a road near our college too has been dug up. That used to be a short cut to my college. Now, I have to go all the way around which is very inconvenient.”
Michael D’costa, a resident of Mahim said, “They always seem to be digging up roads and repairing them. But I don’t see much of a change in the road works. Also, they have been working on the Metro projects and also on repairing the roads which is causing a lot of chaos. I believe they should sort one thing at a time so that the commuters don’t suffer. There is hardly any road space left in the city now.”
