“All the hospital staff will gather in the premises but the dharna will be held for a few hours only and none of the patients will be inconvenienced.”
Mumbai : Workers of Rajawadi Hospital including nurses, ward boys and other hospital staff will be holding a silent protest against the hospital authorities on Monday who have failed to fulfill their long-pending demands for the past few years. However, none of the hospital services will be affected as the protest will be held in the early hours of Monday morning.
The workers’ union stated that the management has been giving out only verbal assurances. The nurses of the hospital stated that the changing room for nurses is on the third floor and they have to climb up the stairs several times a day. “There are nearly 313 nurses in the hospital Of these, most of them falling in the age-group between 40-50 find it tedious to climb the stairs every day. Therefore, one of our foremost demands is a changing room adjoining a bathroom on the first floor in order to ease our difficulty,” said a nurse from the hospital, on condition of anonymity.
The other demands which have been long overdue are filling up vacant posts of workers, to conduct an audit for their pending payments and bonuses, increase in salaries, final decision on fixed holidays for workers, and pension claims.
Sunil Chitnis, president of Municipal Karmachari Kamgar Sena, said: “Since there is no action from the administration, we have decided to hold a protest on Monday and our aim is to get a clear picture from the authorities on our demands. Therefore, all the hospital staff will gather in the premises but the dharna will be held for a few hours only and none of the patients will be inconvenienced. Our objective is to get our demands fulfilled but not at the cost of troubling patients.”
