Thane: The nationwide tennis cricket extravaganza, "President Cup India 2026," kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium on Thursday, March 31.

The event was inaugurated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, amidst thousands of cheering fans.

Vision for grassroots talent

Organised by the Tennis Cricket Sport Federation of India (ITCSF), the tournament is the brainchild of Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Member of Parliament and National President of ITCSF. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Shinde announced a visionary plan to host the President Cup three times a year across various Indian cities to provide a professional platform for grassroots talent.

Historic stakes and infrastructure

In a move to elevate the sport's professional standing, the ITCSF has increased the winner's prize money from ₹40 lakh to a staggering ₹1 crore. The runners-up will secure ₹50 lakh.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde lauded the initiative, highlighting the state’s commitment to sports by noting that ₹55 crore has been allocated for the redevelopment of the Dadoji Konddev Stadium.

Tournament highlights

Participants: 16 elite teams from across India, including the Maharashtra Warriors, Delhi Strikers, and Karnataka Royal Kings.

Grand Prizes: The "Man of the Series" will be awarded a Mahindra Thar, while top performers in bowling and batting will receive motorbikes.

Fan Engagement: Entry is free for the public, with lucky draws offering electric bikes and cash vouchers to spectators.

The tournament will run until April 5, 2026, aiming to bridge the gap between street-level tennis cricket and professional sports.
