Panvel: PMC Launches 100-Day Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign, MLA Prashant Thakur Pledges Support For Patients

In continuation to the campaign , the corporation recently organized an awareness program at Changu Kana Thakur Arts, Commerce & Science College, New Panvel (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Public Health Department, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Department of the college.

A 100 days tuberculosis eradication campaign has been undertaken by the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) .The campaign is in part of the National Tuberculosis Eradication Awareness Program.

The campaign to eradicate tuberculosis was launched from December 7 to March 24 . The corporation has been conducting a series of awareness drives wherein volunteers are conducting door to door campaigns  explaining the symptoms of the disease, health workers are explaining the significance of timely medical interventions and posters and banners explaining the safety precautions to be taken are placed at important points of the city. 

In continuation to the campaign , the corporation recently organized an awareness program at Changu Kana Thakur Arts, Commerce & Science College, New Panvel (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Public Health Department, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Department of the college.  

The chief guest for the program was the MLA Prashant Thakur. The MLA while speaking at the gathering emphasized the need for community support in the fight against tuberculosis. “ A mass campaign needs to be launched to permanently eradicate tuberculosis. For this, each one of us must become TB Nikshay Mitras and stand by financially weaker patients by taking responsibility for their well-being,” remarked the MLA.

The MLA personally committed to taking responsibility for 10 registered TB patients under the municipal corporation's records.

Dr. Pradeep Potdar, Head of Respiratory Medicine at MGM Hospital, Kalamboli, provided guidance on the symptoms, causes, and treatment of tuberculosis. Dr. Anand Gosavi, Chief Health Officer of the Municipal Corporation, reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of making India tuberculosis-free by 2025. “ The 100 day tuberculosis campaign is in line with the objective of the PM wherein we are working towards making the city free of the disease. However, for the campaign to yield the desired results it is urged everyone to work together towards the complete eradication of the disease,” he said.

During the event, food packets were distributed to the TB patients. The packets were arranged by Deepak Fertilizers and the Ishan Foundation.

Additionally, all attendees took a pledge to contribute towards the complete eradication of tuberculosis.

The program was attended by the students and teachers of the National Service Scheme Department of Changu Kana Thakur Arts, Commerce and  Science College.
