Panvel, August 21, 2026: The Panvel Municipal Corporation’s Women and Child Welfare Department will organise the ‘Modak and Puran Poli Festival 2026’ on Saturday to provide women running home-based food businesses with a platform to showcase and sell their products.

The festival will be held from 5 pm to 9 pm on August 22 at Virupaksha Mangal Karyalaya in Panvel. The initiative aims to promote traditional Maharashtrian food culture while providing women home entrepreneurs an opportunity to expand their customer base and businesses.

Festival To Promote Women Entrepreneurs

With demand for modaks rising during the Ganesh festival, and traditional puran poli and other homemade delicacies enjoying popularity among residents, the civic body has brought together women entrepreneurs from Panvel, New Panvel, Kamothe, Kharghar, Kalamboli and other parts of the municipal corporation area.

Stalls will be set up at the venue, where visitors can purchase different varieties of modaks, puran poli and other homemade food products prepared by participating women.

The civic body has already registered women entrepreneurs as part of its preparations for the festival. Attention is also being given to the quality and hygiene of the products, their presentation and ways of helping the entrepreneurs reach a larger customer base.

Focus On Long-Term Opportunities

The initiative has been organised at the initiative of Mamta Pritam Mhatre, chairperson of the PMC Women and Child Welfare Committee. Officials said the festival is intended to go beyond a one-day sales event and create long-term business opportunities for women engaged in home-based enterprises.

The civic body is also compiling information on women running home businesses in its jurisdiction and plans to connect them with training programmes, civic initiatives and new business opportunities.

The initiative is aimed at creating a direct link between local women entrepreneurs and customers, which could help the entrepreneurs secure regular orders and build a permanent customer base.
