In order to prevent an accident, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday demolished a dangerous building. There is a total of 365 dangerous buildings of which 31 buildings are extremely dangerous which are required to demolish to prevent an untoward incident.

Last year, the civic body had issued evacuation notices to over 150 buildings in Kharghar, Taloja, and Panvel area as these buildings are reportedly in a dangerous condition. The corporation had even asked the owners to conduct immediate structural audit of the buildings and submit a report on its condition.

However, most of the owners neither carried out structural audit nor vacated the buildings which are dangerous to live in.

On Tuesday, the civic body demolished one of the 31 dangerous buildings. “One by one, the civic body will demolish the dangerous structure as they are not safe to live in,” said a senior official from the PMC.

As per the PMC, among the dangerous buildings include those constructed by City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) ten years ago.

Last week, the NMMC had also issued the list of dangerous building in the city. There are 475 dangerous buildings of which 61 buildings fall under the C1 category which are extremely dangerous to live in.
