Against the backdrop of the possible third wave of COVID-19, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has set up 22 more vaccination centres from June 16 across the city and will provide vaccinations in them at zero cost.
At present, the civic body has 34 vaccination centres in operation and 22 new vaccination centres have been added to make it easier for the citizens to get vaccinated near their homes. There is a plan to increase the number of centres more if required.
According to officials from NMMC’s Health Department, all the new 22 centres will be set up in civic schools as they are nearest to locality and easily accessible for citizens. “Most of these 22 new centres are in the high-density areas and gaothan to make it accessible for all citizens,” said a senior official from the department.
The civic body has planned to vaccinate every citizen above 45 years by July 31 as the possible third wave may hit by August-September.
At present, at these 22 new centres, the civic body has allocated 100 jabs of both first and second doses at each centre. “We will increase the number of doses once we start receiving more vaccines,” said the official, adding that the civic body aims to increase the number of centres to 100 and incorporate them in malls and community centres.
