Palghar, Maharashtra: Two men have been booked by Palghar police for allegedly transporting cattle without the required permits. The incident came to light late Tuesday night when a patrol team on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway intercepted a tempo heading towards Mira Road.

Upon inspection, officers found 14 buffaloes and several calves crammed inside the vehicle. "They were placed in such a way that it looked like the animals were struggling inside the tempo," an officer stated. Further investigation revealed the tempo lacked the necessary permit for transporting cattle.

The accused had also reportedly failed to provide water or fodder for the animals. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. While the two men were detained and questioned, they were released after being served notices, as per legal provisions. No arrests have been made in the case.
