Mumbai: RA Rajeev, the commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), told the Free Press Journal that there are no potholes on the Eastern and Western Express Highway. However, if citizens find any potholes on the highways, then they can bring it to the MMRDA’s notice.
It will be repaired immediately. Due to heavy rains, the potholes may develop, but “as of now, no potholes are on the EEH. There is just one pothole site on the WEH, but that too, will be attended tonight (Wednesday),” he added.
A few citizens on Wednesday morning complained of long traffic jams on the WEH & EEH due to potholes. However, the commissioner remarked, “The traffic may be due to more vehicles on the road today, since yesterday (Tuesday) many stayed off the roads, as a public holiday was declared.”
Denying the claims made by the commissioner over no potholes, a Mumbaikar, Rajesh Baniya, who is a daily-traveller on both the highways, said, there are dozens of potholes, which can prove fatal. Baniya said,
“On Wednesday morning, he had a narrow escape at the end of the Kalanagar flyover towards the northbound traffic lane (Dahisar side) after a bus put the brakes on time to avert pothole mishap. Otherwise, I would have crushed to death under the deadly wheels of the bus.”
