In order to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, women traffic cops filled potholes at Uran Naka in Panvel. Their act not only received applause but helped to clear the traffic during peak hours. The potholes on the road were disrupting vehicular movement and caused a major traffic jam since Tuesday morning.
The Uran Naka along the main road of Panvel-Uran sees high traffic most of the time. A number of potholes developed following rainfall including a big. This was causing traffic congestion along the stretch. Sanjay Nale, police inspector of the Traffic unit of Panvel received a number of complaints and despite the presence of traffic cops, the traffic congestion had become a recurring problem.
Finally, they noticed a big pothole developed at Uran Naka which was slowing the traffic and it was also posing a risk of accidents. “A large number of heavy vehicles ply on the stretch and potholes were slowing the traffic and also posing risk to motorists in smaller vehicles,” said a traffic cop.
Instead of waiting for the concerned agency to come and fill the potholes, traffic cops started filling themselves. They filled craters with stone chips and sand. Their efforts have brought results as the traffic congestion issue has been solved to some extent. Earlier, the large craters were causing traffic congestion most of the time. Traffic cops deputed from Uran Naka to Tapal Naka joined hands and filled potholes. “Traffic cops Vaishali Kokate, Kanchan Jadhav, and A S Bhoir put their selfless efforts in filling potholes to make the stretch free from traffic congestion,” said Traffic PI Nale.
The initiative taken by police personnel received praise. Motorists using the stretch frequently praised traffic cops for their selfless efforts to make traffic smooth.
