Navi Mumbai, June 7: The state government has started the process of unlocking with a number of services making available depending upon the positivity rate and availability of oxygen beds in the district or corporation area. Interestingly, Navi Mumbai city falls in two different levels.
While the area that comes under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) or Thane district has level 2 restrictions, the area that falls under the Raigad district or Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has level 3 restrictions.
The Navi Mumbai city is spread from Airoli to Panvel, and now it has extended upto newly developed node like Ulwe, Karanjade, and Dronagiri. However, the area from Airoli to Belapur falls under the jurisdiction of NMMC or Thane district and from Kharghar to Panvel falls under PMC or Raigad district. While Thane district with positivity rate under 5 percent falls under level 2 restrictions, the Raigad district comes under the level 3 restrictions.
With different level restrictions, within Navi Mumbai, duration to keep the shops open has different. Under the NMMC, with level 2 restrictions, shops are allowed from 7 am to 7 pm while under the PMC, it is from 7 am and 4 pm.
Similarly, malls, multiplex, theaters, and auditoriums have been allowed with 50% capacity. But these are not allowed under PMC. It means, one can visit malls in Nerul but cannot in Panvel. Similarly, restaurants are allowed with 50 % capacity all seven days in a week under NMMC, the same is available till 4 pm with 50 % capacity under the PMC from Monday to Friday and there is the only takeaway on Saturday and Sunday.
Rajesh S, a resident of Kharghar said that he was not aware that there are different levels within Navi Mumbai. However, he expressed happiness that even a few services are open in his area.
