The Government Railway Police (GRP) Vashi arrested two persons from Govandi for allegedly snatching mobiles and other valuable items from commuters between Kurla and Vashi. Initial investigation revealed that both the accused were committing the crime for a long time.

Last week, a commuter Suraj Desai registered a complaint with the GRP Vashi after two persons snatched his purse from his pocket forcefully and deboarded from a running train in Govandi.

Vashi GRP registered a case of robbery against them and obtained details from CCTV footage at Govandi Railway Station.

The police also received a tip-off about their whereabouts and came to know that they live in the Banganwadi area of Govandi. Under the guidance of Senior Inspector of Police Vishnu Kesarkar, a team of sub-inspector AC Adhav laid a trap in Baiganwadi area and arrested them. They were identified as Vishal Shakar Shinde (25) and Shah Rukh Ansari (26).

During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. “They have been arrested and being questioned as they may have committed similar crimes,” said Kesarkar.
