The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) paid heartfelt tributes to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a tragic plane crash in Baramati on January 28, with senior officials, employees, and citizens observing a moment of silence at the civic headquarters.

Floral Tributes by Officials
NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde offered floral tributes to Pawar’s portrait at the amphitheatre of the municipal headquarters, in the presence of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, department heads, officers, staff members, and visiting citizens.

Grief Over Sudden Demise
Expressing deep grief, Dr Shinde said the sudden demise of a visionary leader like Ajit Pawar was an irreparable loss to Maharashtra and its administration. “May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find the strength to overcome this immense sorrow,” he said.

Highlighting Civic Contributions
Recalling Pawar’s contributions, the commissioner noted that his role in the development of Navi Mumbai, including the foundation and construction of the iconic NMMC headquarters building and the acceleration of key civic development projects, would remain unforgettable. He also shared personal memories of Pawar’s leadership and guidance during his tenure in the state administration, in Satara, during the COVID-19 crisis in Palghar, and while working with CIDCO, highlighting Pawar’s prompt support even in critical situations.

Honouring Other Victims
Tributes were also paid to those who lost their lives in the same plane crash, including security personnel Vidip Jadhav, pilot Capt Sumit Kapoor, Capt Shambhavi Pathak, and flight attendant Pinky Mali. A collective prayer was offered for the peace of their souls, as all present stood in silence to honour the departed.

Legacy Remembered
Authorities said the state continues to mourn the tragic loss, while the legacy of Ajit Pawar’s leadership and contributions to Maharashtra’s development will be remembered for generations.
