Navi Mumbai: A Kharghar resident has raised serious concerns over the Panvel Municipal Corporation’s decision to construct a new bus stop just a few meters away from the existing one at Hiranandani, despite the older structure being stable and reusable.

Jigar Dineshchandra Doshi, a local resident, brought the matter to light through a letter addressed to the Panvel Municipal Commissioner and local MLA Prashant Thakur. In the letter, he called the move a clear case of poor planning and misuse of public funds.

Doshi has also shared photographs of the original bus stop, which, although structurally sound, has been left dirty and neglected. He questioned why the civic body chose to spend on a new structure rather than simply renovating the existing one.

“The public deserves better. Instead of maintaining the old stop, which is still usable, a new one has been constructed. This is a misuse of taxpayer money,” Doshi stated in the letter.

He has sought for a full audit into the decision-making process behind the construction of the new bus stop. In addition, he has called for the immediate cleaning and restoration of the existing structure and urged the adoption of more responsible and sustainable civic planning practices.

“This situation reflects a pattern seen across other bus stops in the area as well. There is an urgent need for consistent infrastructure maintenance instead of redundant spending,” Doshi added.

His concerns have sparked discussion among residents, who are now demanding more transparency and accountability from the municipal administration.
