Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation constructing new bus stops few meters away from an existing structure at Hiranandani, Kharghar has been dubbed to be a misuse of public funds.

The alleged misuse has been addressed with the commissioner of the corporation as well as the MLA of Panvel Constituency Prashant Thakur. The letter written by resident resident Jigar Dineshchandra Doshi expressed disappointment over the civic body’s decision to build new infrastructure without maintaining existing public amenities.

According to Doshi, the older bus stop near Hiranandani is still in usable condition but has been neglected and remains in an unhygienic and unmaintained state. “There is no visible effort to clean or repair the older structure,” he noted, questioning the rationale behind constructing a new facility rather than upgrading the current one.

He added that such decisions reflect poor planning, lack of accountability, and inefficient use of taxpayers’ money. “Citizens expect not just new structures, but proper maintenance, hygiene, and responsible governance,” Doshi wrote in his letter.

The resident urged the Panvel Municipal Corporation to:audit the decision to build a new bus stop in place of maintaining the old one. " I have also sought for immediate clean up and restoration of the existing structure. Corporation is required to set a standard for responsible urban planning and sustainable development," he said.

The resident added that the appeal comes amid growing concerns among residents about civic resource management and the need for transparency in public expenditure. PMC has not issued an official response to the concerns raised.
