Navi Mumbai News: 627 Citizens Screened In NMMC’s Cancer Van Drive Held From May 21 To 24 Under National NCD Program

Navi Mumbai: In a significant public health initiative, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) successfully conducted a four-day cancer screening drive from May 21 to May 24, benefiting 627 citizens across different civic zones. The initiative was carried out under the National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Screening Program, with the support of a specially deployed mobile cancer screening van from the Maharashtra Government.

The program was implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailash Shinde and coordinated by the Health Department of NMMC, led by Medical Health Officer Prashant Jawade. The campaign aimed to provide free and accessible cancer screenings for oral, breast, and cervical cancer, along with checks for diabetes and high blood pressure, for men and women aged 30 and above.

On Day 1 (May 21), the screening was held at Rajmata Jijau Hospital, Airoli, where 91 citizens were examined, including 78 for oral cancer, 58 for breast cancer, and 45 for cervical cancer. The medical team present included Dr. Ashfaq Siddiqui, Dr. Ravindra Mhatre, and Dr. Sachin Chitnis.

On Day 2 (May 22), the van reached Shramik Nagar, Pawane, and 185 beneficiaries underwent screening. All 185 were screened for oral cancer, while 92 were tested for breast cancer, and 40 for cervical cancer. The check-up was conducted by Dr. Ashfaq Siddiqui and Dr. Vandana Narayane.

On Day 3 (May 23), the camp was held at Gavdevi Maidan, Juhugaon, screening 155 individuals, with 155 oral cancer, 56 breast cancer, and 36 cervical cancer tests performed. The medical officers present were Dr. Ashfaq Siddiqui and Dr. Vidya Verma.

Finally, on Day 4 (May 24), the van was stationed at Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital Nerul, where 196 people availed the services. Among them, 113 were screened for oral cancer, 83 for breast cancer, and 56 for cervical cancer. The medical team comprised Dr. Prashant Jawade, Dr. Ashfaq Siddiqui, Dr. Uddhav Khilare, and Dr. Suresh Patil.

The NMMC shared an update on its social media X account regarding the cases and the four-day drive held by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, along with a picture of the drive.
