Two colleagues have been arrested by the Kharghar police after they allegedly murdered their friend following a petty dispute. The incident occurred in Owe village, where the trio, employed by a local caterer, got into a heated argument that ended in brutal violence.

The accused, identified as Sonukumar alias Sonu Mahendrakumar Yadav (25) and Sugrim alias Suraj Chaudhary Nishad (26), allegedly attacked their friend Karankumar alias Karan (25) with an iron shovel and its broken wooden handle, leading to his death. The deceased was recently hired by the caterer.

According to the police, the two accused, victim and another friend, Mahendrasingh Thakur, were employed with caterer Jagdish Butolia. On Sunday night, all four had gathered in Owe village. The dispute reportedly began when Karan requested to ride a scooter that had been assigned to Nishad by their employer for work purposes.

"The minor argument escalated quickly. Nishad allegedly struck Karankumar on the head multiple times with an iron shovel, while Yadav followed by beating him with the broken wooden handle. The violent assault left Karankumar severely injured," a police officer from Kharghar police station said.

Thakur rushed the injured victim to MGM Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment later that night.

Based on Thakur’s complaint, Kharghar police registered a case of murder and arrested both accused. “Both men have been remanded to police custody till May 15,” confirmed Police Inspector Sheetal Patil, who is leading the investigation.

The accused who were preparing to flee, were banned before they boarded a train from Kharghar railway station, said police.
