Navi Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman is battling for her life after a man allegedly barged into a house in Sector 1, Koperkhairane, and opened fire at two sisters on Thursday night. While Tannu Dhobi sustained a bullet injury to her back, her elder sister Ritu Dhobi (22) escaped with a bullet grazing her ear. The accused, identified as Arjun Chauhan, was taken into custody by Koperkhairane police within hours of the incident.
The shooting took place at around 9 pm when the sisters were at home with their mother. Their father and brother, Nitin Pradeep Dhobi, had stepped out for work when Chauhan allegedly entered the house and fired at the two women before fleeing.
The injured sisters were rushed to a hospital by their mother. Tannu is undergoing treatment and her condition is reported to be critical, while Ritu also received medical attention.
Preliminary investigation suggests that a love affair could be behind the attack. However, the exact motive is yet to be established. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting, the source of the firearm and whether anyone else was involved in the attack.
