Navi Mumbai, August 3, 2026: Kharghar Police have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized mephedrone (MD) along with cash, mobile phones, an electronic weighing scale, and other articles collectively worth Rs 4.33 lakh in a major anti-narcotics operation.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Athar Husain Shamshad Husain Ansari (28) and Altamim Awais Siddiqui (20). Police recovered 14.11 grams of mephedrone (MD) along with other incriminating material during the operation. Investigators are now probing the source of the contraband and whether a larger drug-trafficking network is involved.

Police Patrol Action

The action was carried out on the night of August 3 when a Kharghar Police patrol noticed the two men behaving suspiciously near Sai Symphony Society in Sector 35F at around 10.15 pm. During a search, police recovered 14.11 grams of MD powder worth Rs 70,550, a mobile phone, a motorcycle, and cash from Ansari.

A search of Siddiqui led to the recovery of mobile phones worth Rs 44,299, an electronic weighing scale, and a currency-counting machine. Acting on further information, police raided Flat No. 2108 in Sai Symphony Society, where Siddiqui was residing, and recovered additional MD and a substantial amount of cash.

Investigation Underway

In all, police seized narcotic substances and other property valued at Rs 4.33 lakh.

A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b), and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Assistant Police Inspector Shadar Barkade is conducting further investigation to trace the source of the drugs and identify other persons involved in the trafficking network.

"Further investigation is underway to identify the entire supply chain," a police officer said.
