Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth was arrested on Monday evening for raping a teenager, who he had blackmailed by uploading her nude photos on social media platforms.
The arrested youth, Ramji Jaiswal, had recently uploaded the girl’s photos on social media and tagged her relatives in the post. The shaken teenager approached the MIDC police and registered a complaint against the accused. Jaiswal has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology (IT) Act.
According to MIDC police, Jaiswal was engaged in a romantic relationship with the victim in September last year and had clicked her photographs in a compromising position. Since October 2018, Jaiswal began blackmailing the teen girl demanding sex and if she refused, he threatened to upload her photos on Facebook and WhatsApp. She fell into his trap for a few months.
Police said Jaiswal raped the teenager several times from October to February. When the girl refused to meet him to fulfil his demands, he uploaded her photos on Facebook and tagged her cousin, uncles and other male relatives.
When rer relatives enquired about the photos, she confided in her parents and told the truth about the blackmail. After the family insisted, the teenager approached MIDC police in Andheri (E) on Monday morning and registered a complaint against Jaiswal.
Assistant Inspector Vaishali Chavan of MIDC police station said, “Jaiswal was arrested from his Andheri flat on Monday evening and was booked under relevant IPC sections for rape (section 376) and criminal intimidation (section 506) along with relevant IT Act sections.” Jaiswal was produced in a local court on Tuesday and was sent to five-day police custody.
