Mumbai: A 40-year-old woman died while her relative sustained minor injuries after a wall collapsed around 5.30 am in Mulund (West) on Friday. Civic officials said the dilapidated retaining wall on the forestland at Hanuman Pada in Mulund Colony collapsed their hut while the family slept inside.
Injured ones taken to MT Agarwal Hospital
The fire brigade cleared the debris at the accident site while the two injured were taken in MT Agarwal Hospital in Mulund (West). However, Laxmibai Katade who was severely injured was declared dead by the doctors. Raghunath Katade, 50, was treated and discharged, informed the civic disaster management cell. Assistant Municipal Commissioner of T ward, Chakrapani Alle said, “As the wall was on forest land, further action will be taken by the forest department.”

Meanwhile, Mulund MLA Mihir Kotecha told the State Assembly that the compound retaining wall at the Hanuman Pada slums close to Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mulund is in a dilapidated condition and needs urgent repair. “To avoid any such mishap in future, a fund of the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC) could be allowed for the repair work to be carried out,” he said.
