The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Western Railway has again decided to take the support of Whatsapp for the safety of women.

According to Maharashtra Times, the RPF has launched WhatsApp groups named ‘Sakhi’. Women passengers can call 9004449698 to become part of the group. A total of eight groups of ‘Sakhi’ have been created between Churchgate and Virar. The groups are meant to be seamless channels of communication between women commuters and lady officers of the RPF in cases of urgency.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Western Railway launched an ambitious mission in February 2016 to connect to as many women commuters as possible via WhatsApp groups named ‘RPF Sakhi’.  The groups were started so woman commuters could post photos of suspicious persons on platforms or on trains, who they might have seen misbehaving or causing trouble to others. Once such a picture is posted on the group, the women RPF inspector on a group is supposed to communicate with the concerned RPF post at the station to investigate the matter further.
