Mumbai: The Western Railway is all set to shut Dadar Station’s foot-over bridge going towards Churchgate from May 14. This comes after the audit report of IIT-Bombay which stated the bridge’s structure was unsound and recommended its demolition. “The existing old South FOB at Dadar Station will be closed from May 14 on conditional basis for safety of passengers. Commuters can use the other four FOBs at Dadar Station,” said Ravinder Bhakar, CPRO, WR.
The bridge is heavily used by commuters entering from the west side of Dadar station to reach its five platforms. The report said the 6.5-metre wide iron bridge, which was constructed in 1993, was heavily corroded and unfit to carry heavy loads. However, senior officials said it is the crucial bridge and closure of it will lead to overcrowding on platform and other bridges at Dadar station. “The other bridges are wide but what if two trains come at a time then there will be no place to move,” said the official.
