Mumbai: The incessant rains in Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions continued on fourth consecutive day on Thursday. The rainfall activity will continue as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai and Thane under Orange Alert for Friday, July 25, and Raigad under Red Alert for extreme heavy rainfall.
IMD Warns of Intensified Rainfall Across Maharashtra
The IMD had issued a weather warning on Wednesday for increase in heavy rainfall activity across Maharashtra. The other districts which are placed under Orange and Red Alert are: Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg; ghats of Pune, Satara and Kolhapur; and several districts of the Vidharbha region.
As per the local weather forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours, the skies will be generally cloudy with moderate rain and possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places towards night/early morning. The maximum & minimum temperatures will be around 31 deg. C. and 24 deg. C, respectively.
BMC Issues High Tide Alert from July 25–27
The BMC has also issued alert for high tides for the next three days. The highest tide will be on Saturday, July 26 at 1.20 pm at the height of 4.67 meters from the sea level. The citizens are urged to not visit the beach, venture into the sea during the high tide period and follow instructions given by the authorities.
Key Mumbai Areas Record Rainfall Above 20mm
Some of the areas which received highest rainfall on Thursday include: Nariman point (26 mm), CSMT (21 mm), Mankhurd (28 mm), Mulund (21 mm), Sewri (18 mm), Chakala (17 mm), Chembur (16 mm), Aarey road (14 mm) among others.
Lakes Supplying Mumbai Cross 87% Capacity, Two Dams Overflowing
Due to heavy downpour in the catchment areas, the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai have crossed 87% of its total capacity, on Thursday morning. On the same day last year, the water stock was 58% and in 2023 was 53%.

Two out of seven dams supplying water to Mumbai have started overflowing so far, namely Modak Sagar and Tansa. While, earlier this month, two gates of Middle Vaitarna were opened and water release from Upper Vaitarna was started.
