Mumbai: A 28-year-old woman, Dharmishta Sisodiya, was killed when a speeding water tanker hit her scooter near Mahim Causeway on Monday morning. The driver was arrested while Sisodita was rushed to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital, but in vain.
According to police, Sisodiya, an IT professional and a resident of NM Joshi Marg in Byculla, was driving a scooter to her office in Bandra. When Sisodiya was taking a left turn near Reti Bunder road in Mahim, she was hit by the water tanker.
The driver, Mohan Ramchandra Pal (43), was going to supply water in Matunga. According to police, the impact of the hit was such that Sisodiya flung off from the Activa and fell on the road with a loud thud. Pal tried to flee, but was stopped by the locals. Pal, a Dharavi resident, was speeding.
Sisodiya was rushed to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission. The arrested driver was booked for causing death due to negligence and rash driving on Mahim Causeway. Milind Gadankush, senior inspector of the Mahim police station, said, “The tanker driver was speeding on a busy street.
He confessed that he lost control of the vehicle when Sisodiya came on the street out of the blue.
