Mumbai, April 1: A video from Nalasopara has sparked outrage after allegedly showing a traffic police officer assaulting an auto-rickshaw driver during a dispute over a fine. The incident, which has now gone viral on social media, has raised serious concerns over alleged misuse of authority and the treatment of citizens by enforcement officials.
According to the video shared by the Instagram handle ‘Mumbai.insights’, the rickshaw driver is seen questioning the officer over the fine imposed on him. In the clip, the driver claims that the officer, identified as D.S. Kamble, was not wearing his cap while issuing a fine for carrying four passengers. The driver can be heard arguing that the officer himself was violating uniform norms while penalising him.
Initially, the officer appears calm and does not respond to the driver’s remarks. However, moments later, the situation escalates, and the officer is seen allegedly raising his hand and assaulting the rickshaw driver. The police officer sounded visibly irritated by the words of the rickshaw driver. The sudden shift in behaviour shocks onlookers, some of whom intervene and urge the driver to step away and sit inside his vehicle to avoid further confrontation.
The video has since triggered widespread debate online, with several users questioning the conduct of the officer and calling for accountability. Many have pointed out that what began as a routine enforcement interaction turned into an alleged act of aggression, highlighting concerns about abuse of power.
The incident once again brings into focus the delicate balance between law enforcement and public trust, with many urging authorities to ensure that such cases are addressed promptly and impartially.
