Mumbai: One dead after lift collapses from 40th floor to ground floor

A 43-year-old lift repairman, Suryakant Pujari, died and his colleague Anubhav Tripathi, 26, suffered head injuries after a lift they were working in at Siddhajyoti building on Grant Road came crashing down from the 40th floor on Monday afternoon.

While Pujari was declared 'brought dead' by doctors at the nearby HN Reliance Hospital, Tripathi is undergoing treatment.

Chief Fire Officer Hemant Parab said that a prima facie probe revealed the two men were conducting maintenance work inside the lift when it came crashing down. “The society residents told the Fire Brigade personnelthattwo men from the elevator maintenance company were working in the lift when it collapsed,” Parab said
