Mumbai, August 7, 2026: A 56-year-old woman died after she was allegedly run over by a BEST bus while crossing the road near Mulund Check Naka on Friday afternoon. The Mulund Police have detained the bus driver and registered a case in connection with the incident.

The deceased, identified as Jayashree Bhanji, was employed as a sanitation worker with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The accident took place at around 2.30 pm near Maharana Pratap Chowk, opposite the Kalyan Jewellers showroom.

Accident At Busy Junction

According to the police, the BEST bus (MH-01-EM-1891), operating on the Nerul–Mulund Check Naka route, had just started moving after the traffic signal turned green when the woman attempted to cross the road.

She allegedly came into contact with the front right side of the bus, lost her balance, and fell onto the road. The right rear wheel of the bus then ran over her head, causing fatal injuries.

The bus conductor immediately alerted the police control room. Officers from Mulund Police reached the spot and rushed the injured woman to Agarwal Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before treatment.

Driver Detained, Probe Underway

The driver, identified as Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise (33), a resident of Dombivli, has been detained for questioning. Police have initiated legal action, and further investigation is underway under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Santosh Ghatekar.
