Mumbai: In a tragic early morning accident on July 28, a 40-year-old newspaper delivery driver was killed when he was struck by a speeding car on the Sion-Panvel Highway near Mankhurd. The Mankhurd Police have booked the car driver for causing death due to negligence.
40-Year-Old Driver Dies in Early Morning Mishap
The victim, Tejas Baliram Bagul, a native of Vighavali in Mangaon, Raigad district, was residing with his family in a rented house in Vidyavihar, Ghatkopar. He worked as a driver for a paper delivery vehicle operated by a printing press in Kandivali.
Accident Occurred Near Mankhurd Toll Plaza Around 4 AM
According to the police, Tejas left Kandivali in the early hours of July 28 in an Eeco van (MH 03-BH-8136), transporting newspapers for delivery to Kharghar and Kamothe in Navi Mumbai. Around 4 AM, his van broke down near the Mankhurd toll plaza on the highway heading toward Vashi. Tejas switched on the parking lights and stepped out to check the problem.
While he was checking the stalled vehicle, he was hit by a speeding WagonR (MH 01-EW-4551) from behind, causing serious injuries. The driver of the WagonR was later identified as Sairul Allauddin Islam,22, a resident of Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.
Police, Eyewitness Rushed Victim to Hospital
An eyewitness, auto-rickshaw driver Rajesh Nadar, immediately rushed the injured Bagul to police personnel stationed at the nearby toll booth. The officers immediately arranged to take him to Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.
Case Registered on Brother’s Complaint
Following an investigation, the Mankhurd Police located and detained the WagonR driver. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Tushar Bagul,38, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
