Mumbai: SRPF jawan, who shot himself, dies

The incident occurred around 9.50 AM at a civic school. The injured jawan is identified as Pushkar Shinde, an official said.

An on-duty SRPF (State Reserve Police Force) constable died after shooting himself with his service rifle on Tuesday morning. The constable identified as Pushkar Sudhakar Shinde, 36 was rushed to the hospital soon after the incident but could not survive.

The incident took place on Tuesday when Shinde returned to BMC school near Sambhaji ground in Dongri where arrangements have been made for his platoon's stay, his platoon returned after night duty at Mantralaya. Around 9.50 am when Shinde was still inside the van he shooted himself into his neck with his service SLR rifle, the bullet ripped throughout his head, said police. He was rushed to J J hospital where he died during treatment.

Shinde, a native of Pune is survived by his wife and parents. He was a part of SRPF Group No. 2, Pune, D company, Platoon no. 1 which is posted at Mantralaya guard duty since January 6.

The Dongri police which registered an accidental death report into the incident said the constable committed suicide due to personal reasons.
