Mumbai: An 18-year-old architecture student allegedly tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrist in the women washroom at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Thursday. The police transported her to St George Hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable. The reason behind her suicide attempt remains unclear.

According to the police, the girl entered the washroom around 12.50pm and did not come out for a long time. The cleaning staff knocked on the door, but there was no response. Subsequently, one of the women employees looked inside from the open upper section of the washroom and saw the girl lying unconscious, with 'I am sorry' scribbled on the bathroom floor. The cleaning staff immediately informed the railway police, who arrived at the scene and rushed her to the hospital.

A police officer said that the girl, a resident of Thane's Kasarvadavali, is a student at a renowned institute in Bandra East. Her mother is a teacher and her father works in Dubai. While her mother's statement has been recorded, the exact reason behind the teen's act remains uncertain.

Vijay Tayade, senior inspector at the CSMT railway police station, said, “The girl is in the hospital and receiving treatment. We have not yet recorded her statement. Once her condition improves, we will proceed with it.”

In a similar incident, a 41-year-old man allegedly hanged himself at Hotel Sahara Star in Vile Parle East on February 28. The deceased, Nishant Tripathi, left a message on his company's website, holding his wife and her aunt responsible for his death.

Based on a complaint by Tripathi's mother, Neelam Chaturvedi, 64, a social worker, the Airport police have booked his wife, Apoorva Parik, 36, and her aunt, Prarthana Arya, 50. A BBA degree holder, Parik works with a private company.

A Virar resident, the deceased was into animation and filmmaking and operated his own company. According to his mother, he was fed up with his wife and hence he went to stay at a hotel. As per the FIR, Tripathi left a digital suicide note on his company's website. “His wife troubled him a lot. He was destroyed physically, mentally and financially,” said Tripathi's mother.
