A 22 years old Murari Zha reportedly died while 12 other sustained injuries after a part of slab collapsed at garment shop in Chembur. Six injured people have been discharged after treatment and other injured are recovering in the private hospital. Their conditions are stable, said the civic officials.
The fatal mishap was reported in industrial area of Ganesh Nagar, Pushpak compound in Chembur. The slab of ground plus one garment shop collapsed on Thursday afternoon. The 13 workers working in the garment got injured in the incident. They were rushed to nearby private hospital. However Murari Zha (22 years) succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Six escaped with minor injuries were discharged after the treatment. While seven are being treated and their condition is stable, confirmed the BMC's disaster cell.
The slab of old structure suddenly collapsed making a big noise. The locals rushed to the spot and also informed the BMC and Fire brigade. The local ex corporator Mahadev Shivgan visited the spot and shared the details. When contacted Vishwas Mote, Assistant commissioner of M west ward he asked to message but didn't responded to calls and messages.
The Chembur police, meanwhile, are conducting inquiries into the matter.
"A total of 13 people were injured in the incident, of which six have been discharged and seven are under treatment. We are recording statements from all the victims," said senior police inspector Jaykumar Suryavanshi, Chembur police station.
On Sunday, two people were injured when a boulder from a hill fell down on huts at Vashi Naka. Three years old girl died in an incident of wall collapse in Chembur on Tuesday.
