Heavy rains continued to batter Mumbai and neighbouring districts on Wednesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for several areas. The warning, which indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall, remains in place for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar.
Mambai Waterlogged
In the city, severe waterlogging has disrupted daily life yet again. The Andheri Subway has been shut for traffic after nearly 1 to 1.5 feet of water accumulated in both lanes. The Mumbai Traffic Police have advised commuters to use alternate routes via Gokhale Bridge and Thackeray Bridge.
"Due to heavy waterlogging, both north and south lanes of Andheri Subway are closed. Commuters are advised to avoid the area," the police announced on X (formerly Twitter).
Is Your Train On Time?
Rainfall also led to delays on the Central and Harbour lines, leaving thousands of daily commuters stranded or facing extended travel times. According to the m-Indicator app, Western Railway services remain largely unaffected for now, but authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
The Ghatkopar region and surrounding areas received consistent heavy rainfall since early morning, with predictions suggesting the downpour will continue till at least 10 AM.
Heavy Rainfall Across Maharashtra
Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast more rainfall across Maharashtra till the end of the week. Apart from the coastal districts, Pune, Satara and parts of Marathwada are also on alert for possible heavy to very heavy rainfall through July 28.

Regions in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are expected to witness intense showers, while light to moderate rain may continue in the rest of western India.
Civic authorities are on high alert, and residents are urged to step out only if necessary, especially during peak rain hours. With waterlogging and train delays becoming the norm during monsoon peaks, the city is once again reminded of the need for robust infrastructure and quicker drainage solutions.
