Mumbai: Omicron dominates genome sequencing

According to the 13th genome sequencing report of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 268 of the 269 samples processed for genome sequencing were detected with a subtype of Omicron variant.

The Omicron variant and its sub-lineages continue to be dominant and the cause for the surge in Covid cases across Mumbai. According to the 13th genome sequencing report of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 268 of the 269 samples processed for genome sequencing were detected with a subtype of Omicron variant.

Moreover, 107 of the total samples taken in the city were from unvaccinated people, of which three died.

“107 of 269 patients did not take any dose of the Covid vaccine. Of these, 22 patients had to be admitted to the hospital, while five patients had to be admitted to the intensive care unit. One patient had to be supplied with medical oxygen. Out of the 22 patients admitted to the hospital, three died and they all had comorbidities,” said a doctor.
