The BMC is set to take action against the S K Resorts located in Borivali West, after a BJP leader wrote to the R-Central ward office complaining that the property is built on a Non-Developmental Zone (NDZ). The letter mentions that the resort occupies as much as one lakh square feet of land illegally. “We have received the complaint and I have directed the concerned staff and actions have been initiated. Notices will be sent first and further steps will be taken,” said Assistant Municipal Commissioner of R-Central ward, Sandhya Nandedkar.

Nandedkar added that the resort has been built with permissions from the Building Proposals department, however, it will be checked if all norms are complied with. “We have recently taken immediate actions after we received complaints about the construction on mangrove land in Borivali West where several events were held. We demolished the property,” the officer said.

The BJP leader had recently complained that the mangrove land in Borivali was used for wedding events and shoots. Accordingly, the Mumbai suburban collector's office wrote to the Mangrove cell, directing them to take action against the unauthorised use of land. The letter from the collector's office issued on March 13, 2025 says that ‘the land in Eksar, Borivali, owned by Eco Homes Construction Pvt Ltd is had temporary art installations and it was revealed that the set was part of decoration for the wedding of MLA Prakash Surve’s son. While, the R-Central ward officer has been directed to take action against the culprits,’ the letter says.

However, local activists demand that only demolishing the property and registering police cases is not enough and action against the culprits- the developers who have filled the mangroves' land should be punished for damaging the environment.

Activist Harish Pandey who was the initial complainant of misuse of the mangrove land said, “Strict actions should be taken for landfilling and disturbing ecological balance. As far as S K Resorts is concerned, it is illegally occupying on NDZ, but it has been given ‘exemption'.”
