Mumbai: A goods train derailed on Friday afternoon near Monkey Hill in the Bhor Ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune railway route, according to a Central Railway spokesperson. While no injuries have been reported, train traffic was disrupted, with at least two Pune-bound trains brought to a halt. The derailment occurred around 2 PM when the brake van of the goods train went off the tracks at Monkey Hill, a halt station in the mountainous Bhor Ghat region.

The video of the incident shared by the user with the handle @ImAbhi5200 shows that the trains are derailed and stuck on the Mumbai-Pune route. The Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nile, confirmed the incident and assured that no casualties were reported. He told the news agency PTI, "There are no reports of anyone getting injured."

In a separate news story related to the Mumbai local train, Central Railway has officially introduced the city’s first senior citizen-exclusive coach in its local train network. This specially designated coach has been integrated into the EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) rake and is thoughtfully designed with features to meet the needs of elderly passengers.

The coach boasts enhanced seating arrangements, upgraded interiors, and improved safety measures to ensure a more comfortable and secure travel experience for senior citizens. Marking its inaugural run on July 10, 2025, the coach was part of the 3:45 PM CSMT–Dombivli local train.

This move signifies a major step forward in prioritising the comfort, dignity, and convenience of older commuters who rely heavily on Mumbai’s lifeline, the suburban rail network.

The Central Railway shared the update via X (formerly known as Twitter), along with images showcasing the interior and exterior of the newly launched coach dedicated to senior citizens. The initiative is a commendable effort to create a more inclusive and considerate public transportation system for the city’s population.
