Mumbai: A man who fled with a towing van belonging to the Mumbai Traffic Police was apprehended after he met with an accident in Kasara. The person driving the van, identified as Monu Pandit Upadhyay, was taken into custody by Kasara police. Upadhyay, a resident of Deori in Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended, while his associate managed to escape from the accident site.
According to police sources, the towing van with the license plate MH-01-CP0902 was left unattended on the roadside at Eastern Freeway Road, Ram Chowki, Sewri. The driver had left the keys in the vehicle's drawer. Between 6 to 6:30 pm on Monday, an unknown person drove away with the van. When the van was not found at its parking spot, a search was conducted in the surrounding area. When the van remained untraceable, a complaint was filed at the Sewri police station at midnight.
An investigation was initiated after filing an FIR, revealing that the stolen van had met with an accident in Kasara.
Upon discovering that the van was stolen, Kasara Police informed the Mumbai Police about the incident. In response, the Sewri Police team promptly left for Kasara. The stolen police vehicle, a Tata Xenon truck, was purchased by the DCP Traffic in 2017 and is currently under the possession of the Wadala Traffic Division
