The southern arm of the T-shaped flyover in Mith Chowky at Malad (West) will be soon opened for vehicular movement. However, to avoid political clashes the civic authorities have now decided to open the flyover without any inaugural ceremony. The first phase of the flyover was inaugurated by Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal in October 2024. However, this event triggered a political scuffle between the members of the Congress and BJP as both parties laid claim to credit for the project’s development.

The Mith Chowky flyover is designed with two main arms to ease traffic flow and improve connectivity in the region. Currently, the eastern arm, which has been opened for traffic, originates near the Girdhar Park Bridge, passing over the Malad Creek and extending above the traffic junction. The west side landing of the flyover is near St. Joseph’s School. This arm caters to vehicles traveling towards Malad Station, the Western Express Highway (WEH), and those coming from Kandivali, Malvani, and Madh Island.

The southbound arm that will opened soon will offer smoother travel for commuters travelling towards Infinity Mall, Andheri, Juhu, and Bandra, enhancing accessibility to key locations. "The work of flyover is in final stage with works such as painting road signages, setting up traffic beams and lights which will complete in next 2-3 days. But the flyover will be opened without any event," said a senior civic official.

Mith Chowky, known for its notorious traffic congestion, is a four-arm junction that manages heavy traffic from Madh Island, Kandivali, Borivali, Andheri, and Versova. This junction is a major link in the western suburbs, with vehicles traveling from Dahisar to Andheri. Due to heavy traffic, it takes 10-15 minutes to cross the 50-meter stretch during peak hours. Once the flyover is operational, travel time is expected to drop to just three minutes.

To alleviate the long wait times at this bottleneck, the civic body commenced construction of an 800-meter T-shaped flyover on April 11, 2022. The construction of flyover was challenging due to the presence of the Metro 2A line running directly above the flyover. The flyover will only cater to two-wheelers and light motor vehicles (LMV), while entry for buses and heavy vehicles will be restricted.
