Mumbai: In line with the Maharashtra government's 100-day action plan to enhance administrative efficiency, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has launched a major cleanliness and record disposal drive at its Mumbai headquarters. The initiative, led by MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, aims to streamline operations and improve citizen services.
As part of the two-day drive on February 8-9, outdated records, old furniture, and non-functional equipment are being systematically classified and disposed of. Nearly 700 officers and employees participated, despite it being a non-working day, and over one lakh files have already been categorized. Additionally, 500 workers and cleaning staff have been deployed with the necessary transport and equipment to support the efforts.
Jaiswal personally inspected all five floors of the headquarters, directing officials to ensure proper disposal of unused materials and improve visitor facilities. He emphasized the establishment of a Citizen Facilitation Centre to enhance service delivery and reviewed the progress of a Visitor Management System. Special attention was given to the Hirakani Kaksha, a dedicated facility for breastfeeding mothers and expectant women.
The CEO also stressed the need for officials to conduct regular field visits to housing projects, with proper scheduling and public communication. To improve transparency, departments have been instructed to update the MHADA website with comprehensive information, reducing the need for RTI requests. A Citizen Charter is to be displayed at office entrances, and the E-Office system is being optimized to enable paperless administration.
A special committee, headed by Chief Engineer Mahesh Jeswani, has been formed to oversee the execution of the drive. The headquarters remains closed to the public during the initiative, but efforts are being made to enhance the overall experience for visitors once operations resume.
