D N Nagar Police arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting the minor daughter of a woman he was having a romantic relationship with. The accused allegedly threatened the woman of making a video of the incident as well as their intimate photos viral if she pursued the matter further and approached police. The man has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
According to police sources, the complainant, mother of the minor and the accused man's love interest, had approached police to lodge a case against him on April 17. The woman and the accused came in contact in 2019, when she had gone for a job interview, conducted by the accused. The work friendship soon turned into a special bond, and later culminated in a romantic relationship, after the woman was separated from her husband. The duo had established physical relations over time.
The complainant, who was under the impression that her lover was unmarried, was shocked to learn that his wife gave birth to a son. She said in her statement, upon confrontation, the man told that he was soon going to get a divorce and after the lockdown was announced, started living with her and her 12-year-old daughter. In December last year, when the woman returned home from work, she noticed her daughter sitting in a corner, scared. "Upon enquiries my daughter said that the man touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her, and when I confronted him, he threatened me with the video of sexually assaulting my daughter and intimate pictures of us. He blackmailed me into silence, or else he would upload the picture online," said the woman in her statement.
While the woman kept her silence for over four months, in April she lost her calm and approached police to lodge a complaint. Police had began their probe and were in search for the man, who had gone into hiding. The 37-year-old man was then arrested earlier this week and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. DN Nagar Police are now trying to probe if he has duped any other woman using the same modus operandi.
