Mumbai: A major fire broke out in 150–200 hutments at Santosh Nagar, near the entrance to Film City in Goregaon (East) on Thursday evening. No injuries have been reported in the incident. The fire was brought under control within three hours, said a fire official.
According to the Disaster Management cell, "the fire was first reported at 7:29 PM and escalated to a Level 2 (major fire) at 7:50 PM. Approximately seven fire tenders and Four Jumbo tanker along with breathing apparatus, ambulances, and other necessary equipment, have been deployed to the spot to combat the blaze. A fire official confirmed that the fire was confined to the slum area near Film City. The hutments managed to evacuate swiftly, and no injuries have been reported," he added.
Firefighters control the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby structures. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. To provide immediate relief, the BMC has set up temporary shelter at Gokuldham Municipal School for those displaced by the incident.
Local authorities and civic officials are working in close coordination to distribute essential supplies, including food, water, and other necessities, ensuring the affected residents receive the support they need during this difficult time.
