The Gamdevi police have arrested a 27-year-old resident doctor, Rehan Rashid, for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. A 24-year-old Gamdevi resident, Aditya Desai, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, a day after he sustained them in the road accident.

His motorcycle was hit by a four-wheeler driven by the resident doctor in the wee hours on Monday.

The doctor from the State-run JJ Hospital was initially booked for rash driving and causing grievous hurt by a negligent act. Later, he was booked for causing death due to negligence under the Indian Penal Code. According to sources, the incident occurred at around 1.55am on Monday morning, when the car, driven by Dr. Rehan, hit Desai's two-wheeler head on at the Kemps Corner Bridge.

A massive mob gathered earlier outside the Gamdevi police station, demanding the arrest of the doctor. ‘‘Initially, we had registered a case of rash driving but charges under section 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were added later, following the victim's death, "said Rampiyare Rajbhar, senior inspector of Gamdevi police.
