Mumbai: A 21-year-old college student from Haryana, currently studying in Mumbai, was blackmailed and extorted of approximately Rs 2.4 lakh by her ex-boyfriend and his friend using explicit photos and videos of her. A police case has been registered against the two, and one of the accused has been arrested.
The victim had been in a relationship with a 20-year-old man while studying, and they lived together during this period. The boyfriend had stored nude photos and videos of her. After their breakup, he shared these images with one of his male friend. Together, they began threatening the girl, demanding money and warning her that the photos would be made public if she did not pay, as reported by Loksatta.
Frightened, the victim complied and paid money, but the demands escalated. The blackmailing continued for six months, from January 15 to July 14, 2025, during which she paid a total of Rs 2.4 lakh.
The victim’s mother became suspicious due to the frequent money withdrawals and was later informed of the situation. When she confronted the boyfriend, he also threatened the victim’s mother. On July 15, a case was filed against both accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to rape, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy to commit a criminal offence, according to a report.
Following the registration of the case and the absconding of the friend, the Crime Branch police arrested the victim’s boyfriend. His mobile phone was seized and will be sent to the forensic lab for analysis, as reported. After the case was filed, the second accused went into hiding. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate the absconding suspect.
