Mumbai: A special POCSO court has sentenced a 47-year-old man to a minimum of 10 years in prison for impregnating a minor girl. The court observed that the victim, on the day of the incident, was over 16 years old and possessed sufficient maturity to understand the situation.

The verdict, delivered on Saturday, found the man guilty primarily based on the victim’s testimony and supporting DNA evidence, which confirmed that both the accused and the girl were the biological parents of the fetus she conceived.

While delivering the sentence, the court showed some leniency, noting that the accused has the responsibility of supporting an unmarried daughter and his wife. It reiterated that the victim was above 16 years of age at the time of the incident and had adequate understanding of the circumstances.
