Fortis Hospital Mulund marked a significant achievement with the successful completion of its first cadaveric organ transplant of 2025, following the second cadaveric donation in Mumbai on January 12th. A 29-year-old recipient, diagnosed with acute liver failure, received a liver transplant from a 63-year-old donor. The donor, who was declared brain-dead after suffering from an acute intracranial hemorrhage, was from another hospital in the city.
The organ was transported from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri to Fortis Hospital Mulund via a green corridor enabled by the Mumbai Police and Traffic officials. The journey, covering a distance of 21 kilometers, took just 20 minutes.
The recipient, who resides in Mulund, was placed on the supra-urgent transplant list with the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) on January 12th. Within just 12 hours, the patient was assigned a cadaveric organ. The patient had been admitted to Fortis Hospital Mulund on January 11th and was undergoing treatment for acute liver failure.
