Mumbai: A car driver, in a fit of anger, ran his car over a constable's foot and fled the scene after hurling abuses and attempting to snatch the constable's mobile phone in the Juhu area on the night of January 1.

The injured police constable, Pravin Mahadeshwar, 38, has filed a complaint with the Santacruz police. The Santacruz police registered a case on the same day and are actively searching for the unidentified driver.

According to the FIR, Mahadeshwar resides in Bhandup West and is attached to the Tardeo Traffic Division.

On January 1, he was deployed on Juhu Tara Road in Juhu for night duty. At 1,15 a.m., a car (MH 02 FR 4472) was coming from Juhu Tara Road and illegally taking a U-turn at Royal Junction.

Constable Mahadeshwar informed the driver that taking a U-turn was prohibited and directed him to move ahead.

However, the driver began arguing with the constable and threatened him, claiming that he had taken the U-turn from Royal Junction intentionally and would complain to Rajnish Sheth to get the constable dismissed from his job. He also made threats to harm him.

Subsequently, when the constable started recording the incident on his mobile phone, the driver became angrier and continued to argue intensely, causing increased traffic congestion in the area.

In a fit of rage, the driver drove his car over the constable's right foot, causing an injury. Furthermore, the driver attempted to snatch the constable's mobile phone while abusing him before fleeing the scene.

The constable noted that the accused appeared to be between 50 and 55 years old, bald, and of fair complexion.

A case was filed against the driver, leading the Santacruz police to register charges under sections 121(1) (intentionally causing hurt), 132 (assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant), 351(2) (threatening harm), and 352 (provocation to breach the peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
