The brother of a 28-year-old man has filed a police complaint, alleging that the latter ended his life after a woman, whom he met on social media, falsely claimed to be pregnant with his child. While Sachin Gami slit his throat with a knife in Jogeshwari on February 26, he battled for his life for a week and succumbed on March 4.

According to the complaint filed by his elder brother, Kamlesh, 34, Sachin had been chatting with the accused, Muskan, whose detailed identity was not available for a few days. They had not even met in person, however, the woman claimed to be pregnant with Sachin's child, said Kamlesh.

The allegation caused immense mental stress to the deceased and he began fearing that he might be forced to convert his religion, said his brother. He added that the deceased had even confided in his family and they had extended support to him. However, between 3pm and 4pm, Sachin slit his throat with a knife at a shop in Satyam Industries, Jogeshwari East, said Kamlesh.

He was admitted to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Hospital with serious injuries. He was shifted twice; first to Kokilaben Hospital and later to Seven Hills Hospital. After his death on March 4, Kamlesh approached the Jogeshwari police.

Based on the complaint, Muskan had been booked for abetment to suicide.
